The Haa Valley - Bhutan

The Bhutanese flag
We are relaxing in the old barn of the Soednam Lodge (www.soednamzingkha.com) at 2670 metres in Haa. We are as far as you can go east in Bhutan before you hit the Tibetan border. It is only a one day walk to get to Tibet. This heritage lodge was once the home and farm to 3 generations and the owner decided to turn it into a lodge and it has been well received (check the Trip Advisor comments). We drove here from Thimphu - a beautiful drive through endless switchbacks. Untouched forests filled with blue pine, cypress, poplar crowded out the narrow road that was still suffering from the effects of the rainy season. Our driver navigated fearlessly through washed out sections, around cows and dogs, groups of school children, oncoming trucks filled with cabbages headed to India and super tight turns. And Anne and I did not throw up! The photos below are what we saw today enroute to the lodge.
