Kuzu-zangpola and good wishes from the Kingdom of Bhutan!
Spectacular flight on Druk Air from Kathmandu this morning to Paro, Bhutan. Clear skies and blue sky. And we managed to get seats on the left side of the plane! Anne was snapping pics the whole flight -especially when Everest was in view! The landing was thrilling - the pilot navigated through a narrow gap in the steep foothills and we landed! This place is unlike anyplace I have ever been. The architecture, the people and of course the beautiful scenery. We are equipped with a guide and a driver and spent today driving from Paro to the capital Thimphu where we had lunch with an old Trent friend of Anne's (Nancy Strickland) who runs the Bhutan Canada Foundation. Canada has a special relationship with Bhutan through its provision of educators and Nancy is very well respected here. Hard to believe but the population of Bhutan is only 750,000! The capital Thimphu is 40,000. Today we stopped at a monastery, and took in the sights from Buddha Point - a ginormous Buddha statue that has just been installed with a breathtaking view of the valley.
