OCEAN Nepal and its orphanage in Kathmandu

We spent a delightful afternoon and evening on  Tuesday with the children of the OCEAN orphanage in Kathmandu. My Queen's friend Renee, and her friends in Calgary have supported and sponsored the children in this amazing organization. Rajendra and his wife, brother and sister in law have turned their house into a warm, welcoming and safe learning environment for their 16 charges plus their two children for a total of 18! They range in age from 7 to 19. We visited their school and walked home with the little ones, read stories, helped with homework and finished the evening with a lovely home cooked meal. Because of the fuel shortage, Rajendra couldn't get a taxi for us - so he and his brother drove us back to our hotel on the back of their motorcycles. It was terrifying but also thrilling - to weave in and out of the traffic in the dark, dodging wild dogs, huge potholes and rubble. In his sore time Rajendra also runs a trekking  and tour company.
